One of my favorite things to do when we go on a trip is to visit some of the local shops. I think you can really get a feel for a place when you see the town first hand. Whether it’s a small town in the middle of nowhere or a resort town in a popular destination, shops can tell a lot about the place. And of course, it’s shopping. And I love shopping. And for me it’s less about the buying and more about the experience. Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved wandering around a store. I love to see how a place is decorated, the colors, and scents of a shop. I’m intrigued by what’s being sold. But, in truth, I’m often just as intrigued by how it’s displayed. And some shops take your breath away the moment you step inside.
I found that to be the case a dew weekends ago when we were at our relatives cabin in the Nisswa area of MN. One afternoon, Mr. Hammer and I went into town to do some window shopping. We were having fun popping in and out of so many delightful shops. One shop in particular really drew me in as soon as I stepped through the door. Massie Creek is a beautiful shop with the most tasteful and exciting merchandise.
This shop is owned by a husband and wife team, who have excellent taste. I was completely taken in with the furniture. I love the old world atmosphere and completely relaxed feel of it. I was struck by so many of the unique pieces.
Look at those pillows! Can’t you just picture yourself getting cozy with a good book on that sofa? And did you notice the doors in the background? *Swoon* And the lamp. Need I go on?
Every where I turned it was a treat for my eyes and a delight for my senses. Look at these chairs. Love them.

We had a nice conversation with the owner Wayne. He and his wife have owned this place for 5 years. It was fun to hear how the store got it’s name from a family owned cabin. We enjoyed hearing about where many of the pieces came from and what shows they liked to visit during the year. I could have spent hours in this delightful store.
We found the town of Nisswa to be delightful as well. As a popular lake home destination, this area has a lot to offer a family looking for fun and relaxation. You can read all about upcoming events here on their cities web page. Wayne was telling us about the towns “City of Lights” celebration on the day after Thanksgiving. You can read about that here.
If you are looking for a beautiful spot to spend some quality time away with your family, I would wholeheartedly recommend visiting the Nisswa/Crosslake area of MN. This is not a paid endorsement. We just thoroughly enjoyed our time spent there. And if you go, make sure you stop in and visit Pamela and Wayne at Massie Creek. I’m confident you will find that perfect “something” for your home.

I love it up in Nisswa! Next time I’m up there, I’m totally heading here! What a cool store!
I had the same reaction you did before I even started reading this article. The first picture caught me right away and I wish I could pack this store in my pocket and bring it back to Alaska with me. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, I love it all. So many beautiful things to look at. I think those cards on the canvas are my favorite!
What did you buy?
